The other day I went to really amp up my schedule, adding substitute teaching, and revamping my biz, and recently TWITTERING... which for those of you out there wondering... it is an amazing wealth of information, and to contribute, or develop and online presence you have to do it consistently... I heard recently that "consistency makes success.." I wonder if just saying it helps??.... ANYWAY... TWITTER, or TWEETING often...
So there I am TWEETING, and then I go off it for a few days, and SNAP I loose 3 followers... UGH, I just tweeted my fanny off for a week to get a mere 17 followers. CRAP.
OK, NOW here's my real point. I decide I need to be careful with this tweeting thing. I want to do it consistently, on the other hand, I do not want to get carried away, and spend too much time on it, after all, there are only 24 HOURS in a day. So I decide to schedule time right when I get home from work, ONE HOUR. This way, I know I will get it done because it's on my schedule, AND, I will hopefully stick to JUST an hour. And not go wasting oodles of time "gaggling" around on internet... which we all KNOW Is so possible and EASY.
INSERT open can of worms...
However, now, I wasn't so worried about how much time I spent Tweeting, as I was about what I did the other 23 hours in a day. I am always fighting for time, I never seem to have enough of it. So I was inspired to map out my day, and see where EXACTLY I spent my time...
8 Hours Sleep (Got to, at least try for 8!)
2 Hours Walking Dog
1.5 Hour Exercising
2 Hours Cooking & Eating
1.5 Hour Blogging & Tweeting & Newslettering
2 Hours emailing, scheduling, invoicing, preparing for next day
2 Hour reading/entertainment
6 Hours in appointments working
Well, you can see I'm already lover my Hours... we are in fact, ONLY offered 24 of them. And I haven't even gotten to hours for driving between appointments, speaking with clients over the phone, conference calls, or running errands, or anything fun at all... and more to the point why I seem to only get 4 hours of sleep a night... do the math... ugh...
So this was an interesting exercise, and makes me think about all the ways I manage to waste time, and here I thought I was diligent... every time I get caught in conversation with the neighbor walking the dog, or screwing around on facebook, or writing and ReWRITING this goofy blog... holy moly I manage to negligently waste time in all sorts of places.
Take a minute yourself, and look at your day... if you have a family, this is probably even more disheartening if you get to your list, and realize you haven't attributed any hours to spending time with your family... ugh... I guess the message is... in order to get the most out of your day, GET TO IT, stay focused, so that you can enjoy the time you have with your family, your dog, your neighbor, your clients... YOURSELF... CHEERS... here's to SPENDING TIME WISELY!
This is great..I kept noticing that 0 comments were made and I kinda felt sorry for you..this is good stuff and you KNOW ppl are reading it but like me,(almost) I was not going to leave a comment..truly a one sided relationship.you entertain me and I move on....so thank you for shaing your thoughts..the ones that only you could have..I miss having theses great conversations in person..so do watch your time but def. reevaluate often and make sure you are taking time to talk to the neighbors or strangers..(as I know you often do..)engaging with others is so important..trust me..I have a home office..I know..I have often thought about attacking the postman just so we could have a face to face conversation about the weather...look forward to next time! Hoping to win the lottery soon so I can come visit..it could happen..
